在沥青中掺入的分量是很低的，一般为0.2%~0.4%。就算是在163℃的高温下，沥青的路面也不会发生粘附性、胶结性能变差、导致路面开裂等情况的出现。而且沥青抗剥落剂在163℃的高温下，其抗热老化性及抗水损害性等特点都能保持48小时不变且不容易自燃。

沥青抗剥落剂的化合反应是通过与集料的表面形成物理吸附，或者是依靠其特殊的化学结构，在他们之间形成强而有力的化学纽带，这样不但提高了沥青与集料(酸性石料)之间的粘附力，还增强了抗水损害的强度，从而延长路面的使用寿命。
